MUKUNDA MAJHI CASE STUDY

A 22years old male Mukunda Majhi resident of BarapalliNayagrh district, unfortunately met with an accident and traumatized his cervical spine, suffering cervical fracture, he had to undergo a surgery called anterior cervical disectomy and fusion in a private hospital, the surgery was successful but left him with a long road of recovery, he woke up with a Philadelphia on his neck,he was counselled by the doctors ,that he need to take it slow and steady to regain his strength and mobility. Then his journey to recovery began at GET ALIVE HEALTH CARE.

On dated 20/03/2023 he was admitted at GAHC , in a very distressed condition ,growning with post op pain ,all the 4 limbs paralyzed (quadriplegic),and also suffering from diaphragm insufficiency which restricted him from breathing on his own .He was on various external aids ,tracheostomy tube, rylestube ,urinary catheter, and primarily on BIPAP support.

Thereafter he was rehabilitated on various phases ,every small improvement motivated Mukunda to push himself a little harder each day. A patient and dedicated mutidisclipinaryteam including doctors , physiotherapists ,speech therapist, nursing, conjointly involved in the procees. Being targeted from his breathing insufficiency ,BIPAP weaning ,then urinary continence, quadriparesis, tracheostomy removal , dysphasia.

As weeks turned into months ,his resilience became evident .He transitioned from bed to wheelchair to a walker ,and eventually ,he could take a few cautious steps on his own. The progress was slow but his determination ,and the team effort was unwavering.

He was discharged on 21/05/2023, The coarse of rehabilitation took us 2 months time to rehabilitate him to a phase of complete independence in which he is now able to carry out his own ADLS .No more Mukunda Majhi is dependent on his family members.It was a symbolic moment that marked his journey from vulnerability to strength. A collective support system was instrumental in his recovery. The total rehabilitation team ,his family members had a great support providing emotional support during moments of frustration.
